Dhaka: The High Court will deliver its verdict on Thursday on a writ petition seeking guidelines for appointing Supreme Court judges.

An HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath fixed the date on Wednesday.

Barrister Ragib Rauf Chowdhury, a Supreme Court lawyer, filed the writ petition with the High Court on May 30, 2010 seeking its directive to prepare guidelines for appointing the apex court judges.

On June 6, 2010, the High Court issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why it should not be directed to bring 'accountability and competition' in the judicial recruitment process and why the recruitment should not be published in gazette after enacting guidelines.

Law secretary, Prime Minister's principal secretary, Cabinet secretary and Supreme Court Registrar had been made respondents to the rule.
