ACC sues ex-ETV chairman Salam on graft charge
Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday filed a case against former chairman of Ekushey Television Abdus Salam for allegedly acquiring illegal wealth.
ACC deputy director Shamsul Alam filed the case with Ramna Police Station in the capital, Commission's public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.
According to ACC sources, the national anti-graft agency earlier in November 2016 sent a notice to Salam asking him to submit a statement mentioning his wealth and wealth of his family members to the Commission within seven working days. But, he did not submit the wealth statement to the Commission.
As Salam did not submit the wealth report to the ACC, Pranab said, the Commission filed a case against him on Thursday.
On April 16, 2016, the ACC filed another case against Salam and two others for allegedly misappropriating Tk 26.7 lakh from Ekushey Television when he was its chairman.
On March 2, 2016, the ACC also filed a case against Salam, who is currently in jail, for allegedly swindling out about Tk 34 crore preparing fake documents of business promotion bill, legal and professional fees, medical expenses, hotel expenses, foreign tour and satellite charge of the TV channel from September 2004 to December 2015 when he was the chairman of the channel.
Salam was arrested on January 6, 2015 in a case filed against him under the Pornography Control Act in November 2014.
