Dhaka University BCL council held
Dhaka: Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the students’ wing of ruling Awami League, staged the council of its Dhaka University unit at Aparajeyo Bangla on the campus this afternoon amid festivity and enthusiasm.
The council was scheduled to be held in the morning but it was delayed due to inclement weather and heavy shower.
Leaders and workers of different hall units of Dhaka University Chhatra League joined the council carrying banners, festoons, and placards and marched to the venue to the tune of drums. They chanted full-throated slogans.
Awami League Presidium Member and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, also the former president of BCL, attended the council as the chief guest while BCL President HM Badiuzzaman Shohag inaugurated it and General Secretary Siddiqqui Nazmul Alam addressed as the chief discussant on the occasion.
DU unit president of BCL Mehedi Hasan chaired the council and General Secretary Omar Sharif conducted it.
Obaidul Quader said Chhatra League shows the path to others.
“What Chhatra League says today, others will say tomorrow. Chhatra League was first to protest the killing and brought out procession from Dhaka University Madhu’s Canteen on September 18, 1975 following the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the fateful night of August 15 the same year. Many of us had to spill bloods on the streets as law enforcers attacked our procession,” he added.
Later, on November 4, 1975, Chhatra League was first to bring out profession on the city streets from the Bat-tala of the university to protest the assassination of Banbabandhu.
The Awami League presidium member said after 1975, Chhatra Leagus was first which demanded of bringing back Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehena from their exile abroad.
“Now teachers’ politics has entered into politics of students and students’ politics has entered into teachers politics. Teachers are using students to increase posts. We will have to overcome this situation,” he added.
Pointing at BCL leaders and workers, Obaidul Quader said, “Everything is being digitised. But, our behavior should not be digitised. We should not forget our old values of our leaders Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, Moulana Bhasani and Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq.”
He urged activists of BCL to make themselves worthy and efficient enough to achieve the posts of the organisation avoiding dependency on central leaders. “Why you shall become leaders in mercy of others?”
A three-member committee headed by BCL central committee vice president Joydeb Nandi was formed to scrutinise the curriculum vitas for president and general secretary posts of DU unit. Two other members of the committee are DU unit vice-presidents Enayet Hossain Reza and Niladri Paik Palash.
Some 190 curriculum vitas have been received for president and general secretary posts, Joydeb Nandi told BSS this evening. They are scrutinising the CVs, Nandi added.
The last DU unit BCL council was held at Engineering Institute Auditorium in the capital on June 30, 2011.
