Dhaka: Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque has asked the police members to ensure people’s security during the upcoming month of Ramadan as well as Eid-ul-Fitr discharging their duties sincerely and professionally.

The IGP made the directive while speaking at a meeting on the law and order and traffic management ahead of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr at the Police Headquarters in Dhaka on Thursday.

Chiefs of different police units, including Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and senior police officers attended the meeting.

Underscoring the need for forging a social movement against illegal drugs, the IGP asked the senior police officers to strengthen drives against illegal drugs showing zero tolerance.

Earlier, DIG (Operations) of the Police Headquarters Abdullah Al Mamun informed the meeting about the measures taken for ensuring people’s security and safety during Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr.

The meeting elaborately discussed the security measures, safe movement of trains, buses and launches as well as safety of passengers, traffic management, security of Eid congregations and controlling the circulation of fake currency.

The meeting decided to take special security measures to check extortion, mugging and terrorism across the country, including Dhaka city.

It also decided not to conduct any search in vehicles without specific allegation for the sake of smooth movement of transports on highways.

Besides, highway police and district police will engage their special efforts to control highway robbery and traffic jam on the motorways.

The meeting decided to set up control rooms at the Police Headquarters as well as each district or units of the police for coordinating the law and order from 8 July till three days after Eid-ul-Fitr.
