Dhaka: A suspected criminal was killed in a reported gunfight with detectives in Dhaka’s Mirpur area early on Monday.

Acting on secret information, a team of Detective Branch (DB) conducted the drive at Bhashantek near Dewanpara Lohar Bridge around 2:00am, said DC DB (West zone) Md Sajjadur Rahman.

Sensing the law enforcers’ presence, the criminals fired gunshots, prompting the DB men to fire back, triggering a gunfight.

Later, the DB team found Sohel lying at the scene with bullet wounds. He was then taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital(DMCH) where doctors declared him dead.

They also arrested two other criminals—Hiron and Sohag—and recovered two revolvers, one pistol along and several rounds of bullets from the spot.

Earlier, Chiko Jamal alias Musa, in his forties, a listed criminal of the city’s Bhasantek area, who suffered bullet wounds in an attack by his rivals near Shilpirtek slum on Tuesday, died at the DMCH on Saturday.

Following the incident, the law enforcers have been carrying out drives in the areas for the last few days.
