Chandina firebomb attack victim dies
Dhaka: Ranjit Sharma, a victim of firebomb attack on a bus at Chandina in Comilla, died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the early hours of Thursday.
DMCH police post officer-in-charge Mozammel Haque said Ranjit Sharma died at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital at 3:10am.
His windpipe was critically damaged during the incident. Burn Unit doctor said the bomb attack burned 44% of Ranjit’s body.
Earlier, on 3 June, seven people were burnt when miscreants hurled firebombs at a Rangamati-bound Unique Paribahan bus near Chandina, Comilla.
The victims are Ranjit, Suman Chandra Saha, Anjan Dev, Lovely Akhter, Johirul Islam, Khokan Chakma and Imran.
The injured were taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital and Eastern Medical College Hospital at Chandina.
Suman and Khohan were taken to Dhaka Medical Hospital (DMCH) as their conditions were critical.
The Chandina police said the driver and his assistants doused the flame with bottled water immediately after miscreants threw petrol bombs at the bus at about 12:00midnight.
Bus driver Mohammad Siraj said five of the seven injured are in critical condition. Some seats of the bus were damaged by the fire.
Police towed the bus to Chandina police station.
Law enforcers arrested seven people on 8 June and held Chandina Upazila Jamaat secretary Mawlana Mosharraf Hossain and few others on 9 June in this connection.
Earlier, on 7 May this year miscreants set a Unique Paribahan bus on fire at Chandina.
