Gas explosion victim dies
Dhaka: A victim of gas pipeline explosion at a house in capital’s Kalabagan Lake Circus road was died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the early hours of Friday.
DMCH police post in-charge Mozammel Haque said the deceased, Reshma, in her forties, died undergoing treatment at about 12:30am at the Burn Unit.
Two people so far were killed in this connection, said police. Earlier, Rozina’s mother, Momota Begum was died.
Burn unit doctor said around 39 per cent of Rozina’s body was burnt in the fire.
Earlier, on 30 May, seven members of a family were burnt in a fire that erupted due to a gas leakage in their house on Lake Circus road in Kalabagan area in the capital.
The injured are Sumon, Reshma, Rabbi, Rubina, Ayesha, Bithi, and Mamata.
Fire Service and Civil Defence control room inspector Bhajan Sarkar said a fire broke out at the kitchen of the half brick-built house following an explosion of a gas stove when someone was trying to light the stove at about 5:30am, leaving seven people injured.
Soon after the fire started, four firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the flame at about 6:30am.
Among the burned, six are admitted to the burn unit in Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said DMCH police post in-charge Mojammel Haq.
Mohammad Julfiqar, a neighbour of the victims, said a man named Sumon, his wife, and their three children aged between six to sixteen suffered burn injuries along with two other severely burned women.
After primary diagnosis doctors at DMCH said the victims sustained 50-70 per cent burns.
