Dhaka: A Dhaka Court will deliver its verdict on Wednesday in a case filed against Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad and four others over radar purchase scam.

Earlier, on 12 April, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Kamrul Hossain Molla after concluding the rebuttal sessions of the public prosecutors and defendants fixed 19 April for delivering the verdict.

State prosecutor Tapash Kumar Paul said the verdict will be delivered at about 3:00pm. HM Ershad has been asked to be present before the court during the verdict announcement of 24-year-old scam case.

On 24 November, 2016, the High Court asked the authorities concerned to dispose of the radar purchase graft case against former President and Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad by 31 March, 2017.

Later, the ACC filed a petition with the Supreme Court seeking its order for recording the testimonies of some witnesses.

On 08 January, the SC rejected the petition. Later, ACC appealed for reviewing the order.

Now‐defunct Bureau of Anti-Corruption filed the case against former military ruler Ershad and four others with Cantonment police station on 4 May, 1992.

Abdus Sattar Sarkar, a former BAC official, pressed charges against Ershad and four others on 27 October, 1994.

The charge‐sheet was submitted in the case on 27 October, 1994. The court framed charges against the accused on 12 August, 1995.

The other accused in the case are former Air Force chief Air Vice‐Marshal (retd) Sultan Mahmud, Former Air Force chief Momtaj Uddin Ahmed, and Director of United Traders AKM Musa.

According to the case statement, the accused, including Ershad, in collusion with each other, bought a high‐powered and two low‐looking level radars that caused a loss of Tk 640,442,918 to the national exchequer.
