A Dhaka court on Wednesday acquitted former President HM Ershad and two others in the radar purchase graft case.

Metropolitan Sessions Judge Quamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order.

The two others who got acquittal are former Air Force chief Air Vice-Marshal (retd) Sultan Mahmud and former Air Force chief Momtaj Uddin Ahmed.

Another accused in the case, AKM Musa, Director of United Traders, was earlier exempted.

On April 12, the judge fixed April 19 for delivering the verdict in the long-pending radar purchase scam case against Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad and three others.

Now-defunct Bureau of Anti Corruption filed the case against former military ruler Ershad and three others with Cantonment Police Station on May 4, 1992.

The charge-sheet was submitted in the case on October 27, 1994. The court framed charges against the accused on August 12, 1995.

According to the case statement, the accused, including Ershad, in collusion with each other, bought a high-powered and two low-looking level radars that caused a loss of Tk 640,442,918 to the national exchequer.
