BNP on Thursday alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined an international conference on autism in Bhutan ‘disabling her own country’s politics’.

‘The Prime Minister often visits different countries and roam here and there in peace. She recently went to Bhutan to inaugurate a three-day international conference on persons with disabilities. But, she has no attention to her won country’s politics which she kept disabled and people whom she kept maimed,’ said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

He came up with the remarks while speaking at a discussion organised by BNP at the Jatiya Press Club marking the 5th anniversary of ‘enforced disappearance’ of its leader M Ilias Ali.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returned home on Thursday morning from Bhutan wrapping up her three-day state visit.

During the tour, the Prime Minister on Wednesday inaugurated a three-day 'International Conference on Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders' at the Royal Banquet Hall in the Bhutanese capital.

She also unveiled the foundation stone plaque of the Chancery of Bangladesh Embassy at Hejo in presence of Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Bhutanese PM Dasho Tshering Tobgay the same day.

Referring to the Prime Minister’s recent India tour, Fakhrul said it was a failed visit as she returned home empty-handed giving India everything.

He said Sheikh Hasina could not have signed any deal with India without Teesta water-sharing one had she been elected with people’s votes.

The BNP leader alleged that the government has been in power only by resorting to killings, enforced disappearances and repressive acts getting alienated from people.

He said there is hardly any BNP leader and activist who is not facing any ‘false’ case. ‘Why are the government filing so many false cases against BNP men and torturing them? They’re doing it as they know they won’t be able to cling to power without it.’

‘Around 36 cases were filed against our chairperson Khaleda Zia while about 80 cases against Tarique Rahman. Our all leaders are facing cases as the government is using it as a weapon to suppress us,’ Fakhrul said.

He also alleged that Awami League is trying to face BNP with false cases as it has got politically bankrupt.
