Man held with 170 gold bars

Dhaka: Customs officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport seized 170 gold bars weighing about 1.395 kg and detained a passenger on Friday.
Sources at the airport said Md Emadul Helal Khan landed at the airport by an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah on Thursday noon. But one of his luggage remained in Sharjah airport due to unavoidable reasons. He left the airport on Thursday without taking the luggage.
Dhaka Customs House Joint Commissioner SM Sohel Rahman said Emadul came to the airport on Friday morning to collect his luggage which arrived on Friday.
When he was coming out of the customs lounge along with the luggage at about 12:30 pm, customs officials challenged him and found the presence of suspicious objects after scanning his luggage, Sohel said.
After searching the bag, 170 gold bars worth about Tk 60 lakh were found inside it. The gold bars were kept hidden inside an electric flux and knife handles, he said.
