Dhaka: Criticising BNP for its Jamaat-dependent politics, Bikalpadhara Bangladesh (BDB) President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Friday suggested BNP to return to the politics of Ziaur Rahman for its survival.

‘BNP is now doing its third stage politics which is totally dependent on Jamaat. For its survival, BNP must return to Zia's politics shunning its dependence on Jamaat,’ he said.

B Chowdhury, also a former President, came up with the remarks while addressing a publication ceremony of a book titled Attasattar Rajniti Ebong Amar Bhabna at a city hotel. The book was written by former minister AKM Mayeedul Islam Chowdhury.

Mentioning that BNP has so per done three stages of politics, he said, ‘The first stage was Ziaur Rahman's politics. He'd united people going to villages. Now BNP lacks Zia's politics. Then, Khaleda Zia's politics and there's no need for making any comment on it. Now the party is doing its third stage politics –Jamaat dependent Khaleda Zia's politics.’

He, however, said the party's third stage of politics will not last long amid immense pressure from home and abroad to sever ties with Jamaat. ‘BNP must return to fourth stage of Zia's politics and go to people at villages and talk to them.’

Referring to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent Bangladesh visit, the BDB chief said Modi is a good 'salesman' and deserves thanks for resolving enclave problems.

He regretted that the Indian Prime Minister did not resolve the Teesta water sharing problem keeping the fate of two crore people uncertain.

About the deals signed between Bangladesh and India during Modi's visit, the veteran politician said people still do not know the terms and conditions of the agreements. It will take nearly a year to know whether the country will be benefited from the deals or not. ‘The agreement means ensuring win-win situation where no one will be looser. We' don't know whether the 22 deals with India were signed following it.’
