Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Sunday granted bail to Iqbal Mand Banu, mother‐in‐law of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Vice‐Chairman Tarique Rahman, in a graft case filed against her for not submitting her wealth statement.

Metropolitan sessions judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order responding to her bail petition, said her lawyer Mohammad Sanaullah Miah.

Earlier in the day, Banu surrendered before the court and sought the bail.

Earlier, on 12 April, the court issued an arrest warrant against Iqbal Mand Banu.

On 30 January, 2014, Anti‐Corruption Commission deputy director RK Majumdar filed the case with a local police station as she failed to submit her wealth statement within the stipulated time.

According to the prosecution, the commission issued a notice to Banu on October 20, 2011, asking her to submit the statement of her moveable and immoveable assets within seven workdays.

But Banu did not submit any statement to the ACC although her caretaker Zakir Hossain received the notice on January 25, 2012. Later, on January 30 in 2012, the High Court stayed ACC’s notice for four months. But on May 3, 2012, the Supreme Court vacated the HC order.
