Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) as he felt sick in Kashimpur prison, Gazipur on Saturday.

Earlier the High Court on Tuesday ordered the concerned authorities to admit Mirza Fakhrul into BBSMMU for treatment.

The High Court bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Iqbal Kabir issued the rule after hearing a writ petition filed by Fakhrul’s wife Rahat Ara Begum.

BSMMU director Brigadier General (Retd.) Abdul Majid said a medical board will be formed to observe his physical condition.

‘Mirza Fakhrul will be kept in hospital if physicians think it’s necessary,’ the director added.
