Lawmaker’s son sent to jail over double murder

Dhaka: Bakhtiar Alam Roni, son of ruling party lawmaker Pinu Khan, has been sent to jail on Saturday over a double murder incident in capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur passed the order after Bakhtiar was placed before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s (CMM) court in Dhaka on Saturday.

Earlier, Bakhtiar was remanded to four days in police custody.

On 13 April, Bakhtiar opened fire on people at the New Eskatan area in Dhaka as the he was in got stuck in a traffic gridlock.

Hakim, a rickshaw puller, and Yakub Ali, a CNG-run Auto-rickshaw driver were injured during the firing. Later, Hakim died on 15 April and Yakub on 23 April while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Police arrested Bakhtiar and his car driver Imran Fakir on 31 May.

Police said the car belongs to Bakhtiar’s mother Pinu Khan who got the car in duty-free quota. The car will be confiscated soon, informed police.
