Chapainawabganj: 'Neo JMB' functionary Abul Kalam alias Abu was killed by bullets while his three associates died in explosions during the operation at the militant den of Shibnagar Trimohoni in Shibganj upazila, said a physician on Friday.

Dr Shafiqul Islam, one of the physicians who conducted autopsies on the four bodies at the Sadar Hospital, said there were marks of bullets on the chest and back of Abu.

They completed the postmortems on the bodies around 6:30pm, he said.

However, Civil Surgeon Dr Kazi Shamim Hossain said they were yet to get the autopsy reports.

Although police handed over Abu's body to his paternal uncle Yeasin Ali around 9pm for burial, they brought back it halfway on the way home.

Habibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shibganj Police Station, also denied handing the body.

All the four slain militants will now be buried at Chapainawabganj municipality graveyard tonight (Thursday night) as unclaimed bodies, said police.

Earlier, police brought out the bodies from the house in an ambulance around 2pm and sent those to Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said the OC.

A suicidal vest, a pistol and a magazine were also found in the house.

Police super of the district TM Mujahidul Islam said the body of militant Abu was found in a bathroom on the east side of the house and three other bodies were scattered in a room on the west side.

He, however, could not identify the three other militants. Meanwhile, samples were collected from their bodies for DNA test to ascertain their identities.

Earlier, a team of Crime Scene unit of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) entered the house around 9am and collected various evidence.

Meanwhile, Abu's pregnant wife Sumaiya, who was rescued with bullet wounds to the left leg, was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital from the Sadar Hospital for better treatment. She was being given treatment in cabin-13 of the hospital.

Besides, law enforcers kept the house cordoned off and the section 144 imposed in the area by the local administration remained in force till filing of this report around 10pm.

Abu's mother Fulsana Begum earlier said they would not receive his body.

She, however, said they will take the responsibility of his two children.

Fulsana said Abu left their house and cut off communication with the family after he got involved in militancy.

Abu's relatives claimed that he got radicalised after getting married with Sumaiya.

Earlier, four militants, including Abu, were killed during the operation codenamed 'Eagle Hunt' conducted by Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) in the militant den on Thursday.

Abu's wife and their four-year-old daughter Sahida were rescued from the den and sent to Sadar hospital.

The SWAT team resumed its operation at the militant hideout around 9:15 am on Thursday.

The SWAT team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) started the operation around 6:45 pm on Wednesday.

The operation at the 'militant den' was postponed for technical reasons on Wednesday night.
