Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also Awami League president, for an iftar during the month Ramadan.

A four-member representative team of BNP led by the party’s foreign affairs secretary Asaduzzaman Ripon on Monday afternoon carried the invitation letter to Awami League’s headquarter at Dhanmondi.

Awami League deputy office secretary Mrinal Kanti Das received the invitation letter from the BNP leader.

Asaduzzaman Ripon said his party organised the programme at Bashundhara Convention Centre on 21 June in the honour of political leaders. He said the iftar programme will increase fraternity between the main political parties and both of the parties can play a positive role for fulfilling people’s expectations.

‘I came here as BNP’s spokesperson to invite her [Sheikh Hasina] and I hope she will join the iftar,’ added Ripon.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is now in a six-day tour in England. It has been known the prime minister will back home on 18 June.
