Dhaka:  Police on Tuesday morning conducted a drive at the residence of one of the five accused in a case filed over allegedly raping two university students in a hotel in Banani.

Two sub-inspectors (SI) of Banani police along with a team of around 10 police members launched the search drive at Safat Ahmed’s, the prime accused of the rape case, Gulshan residence, Apon Ghar, to arrest him at about 11:45am.

The law enforcers concluded the drive at about 12:45pm as they did not find Safat Ahmed in his residence.

After the raid, Banani police SI Milton Datta told journalists police conducted drive at Safat’s residence to detain him, but he was not at the house.

Earlier, on Monday, Safat’s father Dildar Ahmed told media his son is at his residence.

However, during the raid to police’s interrogation Dildar Ahmed denies his earlier statement about his son’s whereabouts, said the SI.

He said police did not find Safat’s passport at his home.

Two young men allegedly raped the two university female students in a hotel in Banani area over a month ago. Three other young men allegedly helped the rapists.

One of the victims filed a case with Banani Police on 6 May night.
