Dhaka: Punitive action has been taken against two more police officers in connection with the inclusion of the names of an 11-month-old boy and a dead person in the charge-sheet in a theft case filed with Mirpur Model Police Station.

Assistant Commissioner (Mirpur Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Kazi Mahbubul Alam has been transferred to In-Service Training Centre while Inspector (Investigation) of the police station Md Sazzad Hossain attached to Armed Police Battalion of Mahalchhari, said DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman.

The action was taken following an order issued by Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque on Sunday, he said.

Earlier on May 9, Sub-Inspector Maruful Islam of the police station, also the investigation officer of the case, was suspended for negligence of duty.

The IGP also ordered departmental action against the three police officers.

Besides, the deputy commissioner and additional deputy commissioner (Mirpur) have been warned and asked to supervise investigation in connection with cases professionally and sincerely.

A theft case was filed with Mirpur Model Police Station on June 26 last year.

After investigation, the IO submitted a charge-sheet before a Dhaka court accusing 23 people, including 11-month-old boy Rubel and dead man Arifur Rahman, on February 27 last.

Following a petition filed a counsel of the accused, a court on May 9 summoned the IO to appear before it on May 16 to explain the inclusion of the names of the duo.
