Dhaka: Police have arrested one person over the gang rape of a young woman at her relative’s house in the city’s Rampura area.

The arrestee is a resident of Rampura area.

Tipped off, a team of Rampura Police Station launched a drive in West Rampura at about 7:30pm and arrested the person, sources at the police station said.

On 13 June, the 18-year-old woman along with her husband came to the house of their relative in West Rampura from Chittagong.

A group of 10-12 local miscreants, including the person stormed into the house at about 9:30am and snatched Tk 3,000 from the husband after beating him. The relative was outside the house at that time.

The culprits also forced the husband to transfer Tk 4,000 from his bKash wallet to one of their accounts.

Sensing something fishy, neighbours informed the relative over the incident.

After the relative rushed to the house, the gangsters confined her and the husband of the victim to a room and four of them violated the wife in turns.

The matter came to light on Saturday when the victim was admitted to

Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for medical test.

Victim’s husband filed a case with Rampura Police Station in this connection.
