Dhaka: A student of University of Dhaka drowned in a pond of Saheed Sergeant Zahurul Haq Hall on the campus on Monday morning.

The deceased is Jony, a year I student of Department of Applied Chemistry, and residential student of Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall, from Noakhali.

He drowned in the pond while bathing along with two friends around 10:45am, said DU Proctor M Amzad Ali.

Later, after being rescued he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where physicians declared him dead on arrival.
