Lakshmipur: A Court on Tuesday convicted a man and sentenced him to death for killing his wife for dowry in Ramganj upazila of Lakshmipur.

Additional District and Session Judge Saidur Rahman Gazi passed the order as he found Monir Hossain guilty of killing his wife.

The judge also fined him Tk one lakh.

According to the prosecution, Monir Hossain beat his wife Kulsum Begum to death for dowry on November 17, 2012.

On the day, Jamal Mia, father of the victim filed a case against Monir under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Ramganj Police Station.

On April 20, 2013, police submitted a charge sheet to the court accusing Monir.

After examining the records and witnesses, Judge Saidur Rahman handed down the verdict.
