No evidence of negligence of police was found  in recording the sensational case over rape of two university girls in the city, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia.

However, there was deviation to some extent to deal the overall situation, he said while talking to reporters at his DMP headquarters’ office on Monday, reports UNB.

The DMP Commissioner said the probe body, which was formed to investigate the allegation of negligence of police in recording the case, has already submitted its report.

‘The committee did not find any negligence of duty of the Officer-in-Charge concerned. However, we will seek explanation from the officials concerned over the deviation,’ he said.

The two university girls were raped at Rainree Hotel of Banani on March 28 last.

One of the victims filed a case with Banani police station on May 6 accusing five people including Shafat Ahmed and Nayem Ashraf, on charge of raping her and one of her friends. The other three people-- Sadman Shafiq, 24, Shafat's driver Billal, 26, and bodyguard Rahmat Ali, were named in the First Information Report (FIR) for assisting the two prime accused.

All the five accused have already been arrested. Of them, Shafat Ahmed and Sadman Shafiq were arrested from Sylhet on May 11, Shafat’s driver Billal and body guard Rahmat Ali were arrested from Dhaka on May 15 and another accused Nayem Ashraf was arrested from Louhojong of Monshigonj district on 17 May.
