The High Court on Monday asked the authorities concerned to erase the name of war criminal Tridiv Roy, father of Chakma Circle Raja Debashish Roy, from all infrastructures across the country within 90 days.

An HC bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order after hearing a writ petition, reports UNB.

The court also issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why directives should not be given to delete Tridiv Roy’s name from all establishments across the country.

Liberation War Affairs, Local Government Division and Education secretaries, Chittagong Deputy Commissioner and Chittagong City Corporation Mayor were asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.

Two freedom fighters — Badiuzzaman Saudagar from Rangamati and Helaluddin from Khagrachhari — filed the writ petition with the HC on Sunday.

In their writ, they said Tridiv Roy worked for the Pakistani occupational forces in 1971. ‘So, the government should erase his name from all infrastructures, including roads, markets and schools.’

Advocate Sharif Ahmed argued for the petitioners while Deputy Attorney General Taposh Kumar Biswas represented the state.

Talking to reporters, Sharif said the 50th Chakma Raja, Tridiv Roy, played an anti-liberation role and worked for the Pakistani occupational forces in 1971 in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, particularly Khagrachhari.

After the Liberation War, he had fled to Pakistan and became Pakistani ambassador to Argentina, he said.

The HC asked the authorities concerned to rub out the name of Tridiv Roy from schools, roads and other infrastructures in Khagrachhari and other parts of the country, said Sharif.

Tridiv Roy died in Islamabad in 2012 at the age of 79.
