The truck, tanker-lorry, covered van and pick-up van owners and workers Oikya Parishad has extended its 48-hour strike in 16 districts of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions by 24 more hours to press home a seven-point demand.
Now, the strike that started on Sunday will continue till 6am on Wednesday, said Parishad convener Abdul Mannan Akond at a press conference at Bogra Press Club on Monday, reports UNB.
‘If the demands are not met by this time, we will announce an indefinite strike after Eid-ul-Fitr,’ he said.
The strike in the 16 districts of the two divisions entered passed the 2nd day on Monday.
The demands of the Oikya Parishad include stopping harassment in the name of checking driving licences on highways and plying of unauthorised vehicles on the highways, and brining an end to harassment while issuing driving licences.
The truck, tanker-lorry, covered van and pick-up van owners and workers observed a two-day strike on December 1-2 last year to press for the same demands but they withdrew it following an assurance from the government.
