SC stays HC order granting Polash bail in Sagor-Runi murder case

Dhaka: The Supreme Court on Sunday stayed the operation of the High Court order that had granted bail to Polash Rudra Paul, a killer-suspect, in the sensational journalist couple Sagar-Runi murder case.
Chamber court of Justice Hasan Foez Siddique of the Appellate Division passed the order, responding to a petition filed by the state.
On January 27, an HC division bench granted Polash an interim bail in connection with the case.
Polash, a security guard at the rented house of the slain journalist couple, was arrested in October in 2012.
Sagar Sarowar, news editor at private TV channel Maasranga and his wife Meherun Runi, a senior reporter at another private TV channel, ATN Bangla, were killed in the small hours on February 11, 2012 at their rented apartment in the capital’s West Rajabazar area.
A case was later filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station over the gory incident.
Additional Attorney General Murad Reza, assisted by deputy attorney general Biswajit Debnath, appeared for the state.
