Sylhet: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials seized a luxury Mercedes car of Apan Jewellers owner Dildar Ahmed, father of Banani rape-case prime accused Shafat Ahmed, in the city on Tuesday.

Prabhat Kumar Singh, assistant commissioner at CIID Sylhet office, said they seized the car worth around Tk 1.5 crore from a house in Zindabazar area around 11:30am.

CIID Director General Dr Moinul Khan confirmed that the owner of the luxury vehicle is Dildar Ahmed.

According to the BRTA registration, the car was manufactured in 2011. However, it was found during investigation that the vehicle was originally made in 2002.

Dildar has come to the limelight after the rape of two private university girls allegedly by his son Shafat and his cohorts in a Banani hotel came to the fore.

One of the rape victims filed a case with Banani Police Station on May 6 accusing five people, including Shafat. The four other accused are Nayeem Ashraf, Shadman Sakif, Shafat's driver Billal and his bodyguard.
