CCC mayor Sakku gets permanent bail
Dhaka: A court on Wednesday granted permanent bail to Monirul Haque Sakku, the newly elected mayor of Comilla City Corporation (CCC), in a graft case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Dhaka Senior Special Judge M Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order after Sakku’s lawyer M Sanaullah Miah filed a bail petition.
On May 9, another Dhaka court granted bail to Sakku till 24 May.
The newly elected mayor took oath on 11 May.
Earlier on April 18, the court issued an arrest warrant against Sakku.
Shahin Ara Mamtaz, assistant director of ACC, on 7 May, 2008, filed a case against Sakku and his wife Afroza Jesmin on charges of concealing information of wealth worth TK 12.50 crore and amassing wealth of TK 4.57 crore through illegal means.
