Dhaka: Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) on Sunday realised Tk 6 lakh from three shops in fine as they violated BSTI licence rules and Consumers’ Rights Protection Act.

Two special BSTI teams, led by executive magistrate M Moshiur Rahman and executive magistrate Tazila Kabir Tropa, with the support from Dhaka Metropolitan Police conducted the drive in the city’s Chawkbazar and Gulshan areas respectively.

The BSTI team fined Original Bombay Sweets and Confectionery Tk 3 lakh for selling iftar items in an unhygienic manner while Alauddin Sweetmeat Limited Tk 2 lakh for violating the BSTI rules, said a BSTI press release.

In a separate drive in Gulshan-2, the BSTI team, led by Tropa, fined Lavender Superstore Tk 1 lakh on charge of doing business illegally.

BSTI said it will further strengthen its drives against adulteration in the city.
