Deep depression moves northwards
Dhaka: The deep depression over the East-Central Bay and adjoining area moved slightly northwards over the same area.
It was centring at 9pm on Sunday about 720kms south-southeast of Chittagong Port, 640km south-southeast of Cox's Bazar Port, 750km south of Monla Port and 690km of Payra Port, said Met office special bulletin 5.
It is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm in the next six hours and move in a northerly direction further, it said.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 48 kilometers of the deep depression centre is about 50km per hour (kph) rising to 60 kph in gusts or squalls.
The sea will remain very rough near the system.
The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant cautionary signal No 1.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to take shelter immediately and remain in shelter till further notice.
Meanwhile, rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary W/NW'ly Kalbaishakhi squalls with speed 60-80 kph or more at places is likely to occur over the regions of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogra, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla and Sylhet in the next 08-10 hours 4pm today, a Met office squall warning.
