Khaleda Zia hosts iftar for politicians
Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party Chairperson Khaleda Zia took iftar with leaders of different political parties on Sunday, the third day of Ramadan.
Khaleda, also a former Prime Minister, hosted the Iftar in honour of politicians at Bashundhara International Convention Centre in the city.
Entering the venue, the BNP chief, walking around the tables, exchanged pleasantries with guests.
A munajat was offered before breaking the fast seeking peace, progress and prosperity of the country and its people.
Several hundred leaders of different political parties attended the iftar.
Former President and Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh President Dr Badruddoza Chowdhury, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President ASM Abrur Rab, Krishak Sramik Janata League leader, Iqbal Siddique, Jamaat central leader Abdul Halim, Jatiya Party (Zafar) chairman Kazi Zafar Ahmed, Liberal Democratic Party chief Oli Ahmed, Kalyan Party chairman Syed Mohammad Ibrahim, Islami Oikya Jote leader Abdul Latif Nezami, Khelafat Majlish leader Prof M Ishaq, Jatiya Gonotantrik Party leader Shafiul Alam Prodhan, National People's Party (NPP) leader Farhaduzzaman Farhad, National Democratic Party (NDP) leader Khandaker Golam Mortuza, Bangladesh NAP leader Zebel Rahman Gani and Labour party chief Mostafizur Rahman Iran, among others, attended the iftar.
BNP standing committee members Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, Brig (retd) ASM Hannan Shah, MK Anwar, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and Nazrul Islam Khan and other leaders of BNP and its front organisations were present.
Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, senior Awami League leaders, and Jatiya Party Chairman and ex-President HM Ershad were also invited, but they did not turn up.
Earlier, Khaleda hosted an iftar party for orphans and Islamic scholars on the first day of Ramadan.
