JMB member informs about arms haul: IGP

Narayanganj: Acting on the information given by a member of banned militant organisation Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) police recovered a large cache of firearms and ammunition from the Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj in an overnight drive, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque.
The law enforcers recovered huge arms and ammunition including 62 Chinese riffles, 40 SMG, two rocket launchers, six pistols, 22 hand grenade, detonators during a drive at Purbachal area of Rupganj from Thursday night to Friday morning.
The arms and explosives were found in eight bags which were hidden in a house and a lake near it.
A team of police conducted the drive till 12:00noon. The law enforcers also set a pump to drain the lake water during their operation.
Being informed about the raid, senior officials of police including the IGP went to spot and talked to the journalists.
The IGP told the reporters, a police team arrested a man, Shamim, suspecting him as a JMB member on Thursday afternoon.
Based on his primary statement police conducted drive at Blue City in the sector 3 of Purbachal and recovered two arms from the spot.
Later, the police team conducted another drive at sector 5 in Purbachal and recovered eight bags of arms and ammunition, said the IGP.
He said the arms were stored in the spot around three months back.
