SI, 5 family members sued for torturing housewife
Sherpur: A case has been filed against an sub-inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and five other members of his family for allegedly torturing a housewife physically in Sreebardi upazila.
The mother of the victim, Ashrafunnahar Lopa, 19, filed the case against SI Shahinul Islam, 30, also husband of Lopa, and five other members of his family, including Shahinul's mother, with Sreebardi Police Station on Monday night under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, said officer-in-charge of the police station S Alam.
Shahinul, son of late Moydan Ali, along with his family members allegedly beat Lopa, daughter of Aminul Islam of Damdama-Kaliganj in the town of Sherpur district, at Ghonapara village in Sreebardi upazila on the night of May 22 last as he failed to collect Tk 20 lakh in dowry from Lopa's father.
Later, Shahinul took Lopa to his rented house in Banasree of the capital in the name of treatment. But she was tortured by her husband there on June 3.
On information, victim's family members with the help of Khilgaon Police Station rescued the victim, a Class-XII student of Sherpur Government Women's College, from the house.
Later, she brought here and admitted to Sherpur Sadar Hospital.
Mukti Mahmud, a surgeon of the hospital, said they found several injury marks on different parts of her body, including an eye, chest, neck, back and leg.
Shahinul did not receive the call over his mobile phone.
