158 BRTC buses irreparable: Minister
Dhaka: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday told Parliament that 158 buses of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) have turned irreparable.
‘Some 158 BRTC buses are now out of order. Those are waiting to be declared beyond economic repair as the repair won’t be profitable,’ he said replying to a starred question from ruling Awami League lawmaker Abdul Latif (Chittagong-11).
The minister said some 205 BRTC buses were either torched or vandalised during violent political movements both in 2013 and 2014.
Now 295 BRTC buses, including the 205 damaged ones, are now in repair process, he added.
In reply to another starred question from AL lawmaker Waseqa Ayesha Khan (Reserved Seat-31), Qbaidul said the procurement of 300 double-decker buses, 100 articulated ones and 500 trucks for the BRTC are under process.
There are currently 1670 vehicles in the BRTC fleet. Of those, 1532 are buses and 138 trucks, the minister told the House.
