Moudud calls his Gulshan house eviction ‘unlawful’
Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) senior leader Moudud Ahmed termed 'unlawful' the Rajdhahi Unnyan Kartripakkha's (Rajuk's ) drive to evict him from the house he has been living for 36 years 'without any prior notice'.
"I've been evicted from my houses unlawfully as I'm involved in the opposition party's politics. I was not served with any notice before carrying out the eviction drive," a dejected Moudud told reporters in front of his house.
As per the existing law, he said Rajuk should have given notice before carrying out any eviction drive against any one. "But, they didn't follow it."
Moudud said he will go to the court seeking justice against the 'injustice' done to him.
Rajuk launched the eviction drive at about 11:00am to take over the property as the Apex court ordered it to mutate the 1.13 bigha land and residence at Gulshan where Moudud Ahmed had been residing since 1981.
On Sunday, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court dismissed two petitions filed seeking a review against the SC verdict that scrapped Moudud's possession of a house at holding No 159 in Gulshan-2 area of the capital.
Hearing the eviction news, Moudud appeared in front of the house at about 3:10pm.
He asked the Rajuk's employees why they are removing his valuables. "This incident is an example that the country lacks the rule of law.
The BNP leader also told journalists covering the drive," You see how they're removing my valuables. This is the greatest example of vengeance. The court didn't order them to evict me."
He said he has no idea where he will now move with his valuables as the drive was carried out suddenly, reports news agency UNB.
