Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday caught an accounts officer red-handed in Natore while taking bribe.

An eight-member ACC team, led by its director Abdul Aziz Bhuiyan of the Commission's Rajshahi Divisional Office, arrested accounts officer of Lalpur Upazila Accounts Office Momen Ahmad from his office at 2:30 pm, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told news agency UNB.

Kohinoor Begum, a retired family planning official, recently went to Lalpur Upazila Accounts Office for withdrawing her pension money, but Momen demanded Tk 25,000 from her to do his job and threatened not to sign the file if his not given the money.

Later, Kohinoor agreed to give Tk 25,000 and submitted a written compliant against the accounts officer with the Commission.

In consultation with the ACC officials, the plaintiff's son went to the local accounts office on Wednesday afternoon to give Momen Tk 25,000 in bribe. While receiving the money, the ACC team caught him red-handed.

Later in the day, ACC deputy director Sheik Faiaz Alam filed a case against Momen Ahmad with Lalpur Police Station in connection with the incident.
