Sylhet: Rail communications of Sylhet resumed with the other parts of country after 10 hours halt due to derailment of two compartments of a train near Lauachhara National Forest in Moulvibazar on Saturday night.

The rail link has been halted since at about 10:30pm on Saturday. However, the rail communication resumed at about 8:00am on Sunday.

Srimangal Railway Station Master Faizur Rahman said Diesel electric multiple unit (DEMU) train from Akhaura was crossing the Lauachhara area at about 10:00pm on Saturday, when a tree fall on the railway tracks and left two compartments of the train, including its engine, derailed.

The rail communications of Sylhet-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet routes were snapped due to the derailment. After the halt, Chittagong-bound Udayan, Dhaka-bound Upaban, two local trains—Surma and Jalalabad— stuck at Srimangal and Bhanugach rail stations.

Being informed, two salvage trains from Kulaura and Akhaura stations went to the spot at about 2:00am.
