Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Sunday ordered Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to carry out investigation against seven police personnel of Badda Police Station including the officer‐in‐charge, and four named and five to seven unnamed people in a case filed for extortion and vandalism at a house at Badda in Dhaka.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate M Mazharul Islam passed the order after recording deposition of plaintiff Nurunnahar Nasima Begum, a resident of Badda in Dhaka.

Nasima filed the case with the court of Mazharul in the morning.

According to the case statement, Nurunnahar has long been at loggerheads over the ownership of a piece of land with Jahanara Rashid Rupa, daughter of her husband’s another wife.

Both Nurunnahar and Rupa used to live at the same house at Badda along with their respective family members.

On Saturday, Rupa along with her husband, Ataur Rahman Kaysar, two others ‐ Rokeya Rashid and electrician M Shukur Ali—and the police team, consisting of SI Shahid, ASIs Din Islam and M Abdur Rahim and three constables, went to the apartment of Nurunnahar.

However, Nurunnahar was not at home then and Rupa asked Nurunnahar’s son Robin to reset the electric connection to her apartment.

As Robin denied to do so, the policemen beat up him with hammer, leaving him injured.

Later, the police personnel vandalised the electric meter, furniture and took Tk 20,000 and five bhories of golden ornaments from the apartment.

Earlier, on May 26, ASI Abdur Rahim of Badda Police Station threatened Nurunnahar to give Tk two lakh to OC Abdul Jalil.
Following the incidents, Nurunnahar filed the case with the court on Sunday morning
