Dhaka: A newspaper vendor was killed as a private car ran him over at Banani in the capital on Tuesday evening.

The deceased is Siam, 18 of Jagatpur village in Ramganj upazila of Lakshmipur.

Witnesses said the speeding private car knocked Siam down while he was crossing a signal near Chairman Bari at about 7:30pm, leaving him injured.

He was whisked off to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

DMCH police camp In-charge Inspector Mozammel Haque confirmed the incident.
