Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday filed a case against Feroza Mahmud, wife of acting editor of Daily Amar Desh Mahmudur Rahman, for allegedly acquiring illegal wealth.

ACC deputy director Harunur Rashid filed the case against her with Ramna Police Station in the capital, ACC spokesman Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.

According to the first information report (FIR), the Commission earlier received an allegation that Feroza accumulated illegal wealth. And the ACC sent Feroza a notice in 2010 asking her to submit her wealth report to it.

Feroza then submitted a writ petition with the High Court challenging the ACC notice. But the court later asked her to submit her wealth statement to the Commission.

After receiving a wealth statement from Feroza, the Commission initiated a probe against her in 2016 and found that she has two flats in the city's Gulshan-2 area.

In her wealth statement, Feroza mentioned that the worth of the two flats is about Tk 74 lakh. But, the ACC's probe found the value of the flats is about Tk 1.38 crore, the FIR said, adding Feroza concealed wealth of Tk 64 lakh, which she accumulated illegally, in her wealth statement.

The case was filed under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004.
