Dhaka: CNG stations will remain open round the clock for 10 days from 10-19 July next to ensure the smooth fuel supply to passenger-carrying vehicles on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Transport and Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader said this at a high-level meeting on transportation held at Biam auditorium on Tuesday evening.

He said no truck or covered van will be allowed to ply the country’s highways for three days each prior to and after the Eid day, except those carrying perishable commodities.

Quader said a taskforce will be formed soon to monitor vehicle movement in the capital so that no traffic congestion is created at the entrances of the Dhaka city during the eid.

He said adequate cranes and wreckers will be deployed in accident-prone points of highways to ensure free movement of vehicles if any accident takes place.

To check excess bus fare ahead of the eid, the minister said, vigilance teams will be deployed in city bus stations, including Saidabad, Mohakhali and Gabtoli, to cut sufferings of home-goers.

He said human-haulers and unfit vehicles will not be allowed on highways, and asked WASA authorities to stop its digging works at least 10 days prior to the eid day.

The meeting also asked the Home Ministry to take steps to resist members of ‘malam party’ so that home goers may have safe journey.

Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Railway Minister Mazibul Hoque, State Minister for Home Assaduzzaman Khan, State Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Moshiur Rahman Ranga, Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) M Anisul Haque, Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) AJM Nasir Uddin and senior officials of law-enforcement agencies were present at the meeting.
