Satkhira: A man allegedly committed suicide after stabbing his wife at Ghona village in Islamkati union of Tala upazila in Satkhira early on Monday.

The deceased is Akhter Ali Morol, son of Gohor Ali Morol of the village.

Hasan Hafizur Rahman, officer‐in‐charge of Tala Police Station, said that Akhter stabbed his wife Irani Begum indiscriminately while she was sleeping, leaving her critically injured.

Later, he hanged himself with a rope from a mango tree nearby his house.

Hearing screams of Irani, locals rushed to the spot and took her to Khulna 250‐bed hospital. She was later referred to Dhaka as her condition deteriorated.

On information, police recovered the body of Akhter and sent it to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.

The OC said that Akhter was a mentally challenged person.
