Disability orientation session held at CRP
Dhaka: ‘PDF summer challenge 2015’, one of the signature events by Physically-challenged Development Foundation (PDF), conducted a disability orientation session on Saturday, 20 June 2015, at Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP), in Savar.
PDF along with their 25 participating teams, comprising about 10 members in each team, as well as volunteers participated this day long orientation session which includes disability orientation presentation, CRP visit, spending time and sharing the thoughts of disable patients and making oneself aware of the difficulties of disable people by different kind of games and session.
The objective of the day-long session was to make the ‘able’ aware of the difficulties, possibilities and portray the fact of the perception of the society towards disability.
Mizanur Rahman Kiron, founder president of PDF quoted, ‘The disable people are not truly disable, I found them ‘especially able’. They just need our support and if the society can provide them the support, they can prove themselves’.
The PDF chief’s sessions and emotional speeches truly inspired the participants to take a step forward with their ability by holding the hands of disabled.
He also mentioned the need of disable friendly campus moreover the need of changing our perception.
Nabela Faiza, a student and currently affiliated with PDF quoted, ‘Today is a life changing day for me. This session and the visit helped all of us to understand the challenge these ‘specially abled’ persons, whom we disregard most of the time, face every day.’
Ishaan, a high school student said, ‘PDF summer challenge and this orientation session both helped me to develop myself as a disable friendly person. And I am hopeful if we work together, we will surely change the perception of the society’
The orientation session ended with a friendly wheelchair basketball match between the patients and the participants. The enthusiasm and encouragement between the participants were noticeable. They were all associated with one motif that they will change the perception of the society and they will walk together towards ability.
