Registration not required for online versions of newspaper, television
Dhaka: The cabinet on Monday approved the draft of National Online Mass Media Guideline to bring the internet based news media under regulation.
National Broadcast Commission will monitor online media and ensure proper implementation of the guideline. However, online portals of newspapers and televisions do not require further registration.
A cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the draft at the cabinet room in National Parliament.
After the meeting, the cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said around 1,800 online media submitted their applications for registration. A commission will be formed according to the draft’s proposal. The commission will issued registration to the online portals.
The newspapers and televisions which are already registered do not require further registration, but they have to inform details of the activities to National Broadcast Commission, said the cabinet secretary.
