City malls abuzz with last-minute Eid shoppers
Though many are leaving the city for their homes to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest festival of Muslims, with their families, many more are still busy with their last-minute Eid shopping.
With only two days left before the Eid, the city dwellers have been thronging different shopping malls to complete their shopping, reports UNB.
Girls and women were seen buying bangles, ear rings and other jewellery matching with their attire, while tupi, tasbih and surma being sold at the eleventh hour. Tailoring shops were seen equally crowded with people taking the deliveries of their ordered dresses.
Mumu Feroze, a student of Eden College, said her Eid dresses were completed much before the Ramadan as the tailors refused to take orders after 15th Ramadan usually. Now, she is looking for some suitable and unique jewellery, including earrings and bangles, to give the finishing touch to her shopping.
Asked what are the last-minute items to pick she said, ‘Without henna, Eid shopping is incomplete. I’ll buy henna and some home decor items too to give my house a festive look.’
At Baily Road, several henna stalls in front of shopping malls came in sight where small girls and women thronged after their shopping to apply colorful henna on their hands.
Beauty parlours, both ladies and gents, are also facing huge rush.
Those who could not manage time for shopping throughout the month, are now rushing to the markets as most of the offices are closed.
While buying punjabis and shirts, Mehedi Hasan said, ‘After office hours, it becomes tough to roam around the markets and find your desired items. As the office is now closed, I came today to do the shopping in a relaxed mood.’
‘It is also easy to buy desired things when you get more free time in hand, and you can shop with satisfaction,’ he added.
However, many people like shopping on Chandraat (the night before Eid day), they go to shops and markets with families to get the festive feeling and do some shopping as well.
Naznin Shultana, a businessperson, said Eid is an occasion which brings people closer. ‘Every year, I along with my family members go out for shopping on Chaandrat to get the festive feeling. It also works as refreshment after the month-long fasting,’ she said.
