Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Monday asked police to interrogate Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at jail gate within 10 days in a case filed with Paltan Police Station.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Asaduzzaman Nur passed the order after rejecting both the bail and remand prayers.

Earlier, Paltan police sub-inspector Dewan Ujjal Hossain and the investigation officer of the case, produced the BNP leader before the court on completion of his five-day remand in another case, seeking a 10-day remand. On the other hand, Fakhrul’s counsel Md Sanaullah Miah prayed for his bail.

On January 5, miscreants hurled two crude bombs targeting a motorcycle of police sergeant Tanumoy Sikdar and set the vehicle afire near Paltan Tower on Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Sarani in Purana Paltan in the city.

Mostak Ahmed, assistant sub-inspector of Paltan Police Station, filed a case against 51 identified and 120-150 unidentified people in connection with the incident.

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP standing committee member Rafiqul Islam Miah, Barkatullah Bulu, Amanullah Aman and Jatiya Party (JP) president Andaleeb Rahman Partha are among the accused.

Fakhrul, now in custody, was earlier put on a five and three-day remands on February 3 and January 27 respectively in two other cases filed under the Explosive Substances Act with Motijheel and Paltan police stations.

On January 6, plain-clothes police arrested the BNP acting secretary general as he came out of the Jatiya Press Club after about 25 hours of stay there.
