Duration of deal with rental power plants increased: Nasrul
Dhaka: The duration of agreements with several rental power plants has been increased by keeping consistency with the growing demand of electricity in the country, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said on Sunday.
‘The tenure of the agreements with these rental power plants has been increased by keeping consistency with the growing demand of the electricity in the country as more time is needed to execute the coal-based power plants,’ he said.
Replying to a scripted query raised by Jatiya Party lawmaker Selim Uddin (Sylhet-5), Nasrul said as many as 31 quick rental power plants have so far been established in the country to generate electricity.
‘The power generation capacity of these power plants is 2,137 megawatt,’ he informed.
The state minister said the rental and quick rental power plants have been supplying electricity to the national grid as per a government decision.
‘The existing rental and quick rental power plants are being run by gas, furnace oil and diesel,’ he said.
He also mentioned that dependency on rental power plants would come down with the reduction of difference between demand and production of electricity.
