IGP seeks people’s help to root out militancy

Dhaka: Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque on Sunday said law enforcement agencies have already broken the backbones of militant groups although the militancy is yet to be stamped out from the country.
The IGP came up with the remark while exchanging post-Eid greetings with crime reporters at the Police Headquarters in the city.
He urged people to put up a strong resistance against militancy. ‘I firmly believe, it’ll be possible to root out militancy if people from all walks of life extend their support,’ Hoque added.
Asked about Neo-JMB chief Ayub Bachchu, the IGP said he and all of his associates are under the surveillance of detectives.
‘Bachchu is a miscreant. He’ll be arrested anytime soon. Police and detectives are working to arrest all the militants, including Bachchu,’ the police chief said.
