Dhaka: Months into the alleged rape at Banani’s Raintree hotel, a woman was reportedly been raped after responding to a birthday party invitation at Banani.

The victim of the incident filed a case with Banani police on Wednesday night claiming son of a businessman allegedly raped her overnight and thrown her away on the road on Tuesday.

The Banani police duty officer sub-inspector (SI) Ali Ahmed said the victim is now under the custody of Victim Support Centre in Tejgaon. She will be sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for health check-up.

Abdul Matin, an inspector (investigation) of Banani Police Station, said the victim filed the case against Bahauddin Ivan, 28, son of Borhanuddin, a businessman, with the police station on Wednesday.

According to the first information report (FIR), ‘The victim met Ivan on Facebook 11 months back and both have been in an affair since then. On Tuesday night, Ivan invited the girl to his birthday party at Nam Village in Banani saying to introduce her with his mother.’

‘When the girl reached Ivan’s house around 10:30 pm, she found neither any birthday party arrangement nor any guest at the house. At one stage, Ivan served her dinner and some toxic elements. When the girl refused to take it, Ivan said it’s not harmful. Later, Ivan violated the girl after confining her to his residence,’ the FIR report adds.

It further says, ‘Ivan had earlier violated the girl with a promise to marry her.’

Following the incident, the victim filed a case against Ivan, already a father of two children, said police.

Police said the 21-year-old victim is a resident of Dhaka and sat for her class XII final examination.

However, no arrest has been made in this connection.

Earlier on 6 May, a university student filed a case with Banani Police Station in city accusing five people.

Of the accused, Shafaat Ahmed, 26, and Nayem Ashraf, 30, were sued for raping the two female students of a private university while Sadman Sakif, 24, Shafat’s driver Billal, 26, and his unnamed bodyguard for abetting the crime.

According to the case statement, the plaintiff along with her friend went to a residential hotel at Banani to attend the birthday party of Shafat on 28 March.

The two prime accused—Shafat and Nayem—confined them to two rooms of the hotel at gunpoint after the rooftop birthday party was over at midnight. The two girls were made to drink liquor before being raped. Shafat raped the plaintiff while Nayem her friend.
