Dhaka: Customs officials arrested a passenger carrying nine gold bars weighing nine kilograms at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Wednesday night.

The arrestee is Sirajul Islam, around 40 years old. He landed in Dhaka from Malaysia via Bangkok by a PG flight of Bangkok Airways.

On secret information, officials of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) challenged Sirajul while he was crossing green channel, said customs sources.

After searching his body, the officials recovered nine gold bars weighing nine kilograms and a piece of gold weighing 278gram worth Tk 4.60 crore.
